Hello and Goodbye
Photo Exhibition Annika Eliane Krause
The author and photographer Annika Eliane Krause accompanied nine women during the birth of their children or during their own illness and death. The result is a series of haunting images that connect the transitions at the beginning and end of life in a touching way. The women's honest self-exposure breaks with social taboos and yet preserves the dignity of those portrayed at every moment. Based on the deep relationship of trust between the author and the people portrayed, a multi-layered picture emerges of the female view of life and death.
Annika Eliane Krause works as a freelance photographer and author in Cologne.
Her photographic book HELLO UND AUF WIEDERSEHEN was published by Christoph Merian Verlag in March 2024. In text and images, the project deals with self-determination in the birth and dying process. During the development process, she trained as a doula (birth companion) and completed a qualification course as a volunteer death companion in order to deal intensively with the topics of birth and death and to be able to handle these sensitive encounters responsibly.
She is also concerned with the discrepancy between expectations and reality in the birth and dying process and the question of how we can change this. Through lectures, readings and exhibitions, she is committed to giving birth and death more space in life.
